No starry eyed expat

My name is Rochelle Del Borrello and I am a mother, writer, ESL teacher and blogger originally from Australia.

A few years ago I began writing about the difficulties of being an accidental or ‘unwilling expat’ in Sicily but now my life is about accepting and embracing life in Italy.

Sicily is a mysterious place for most, it is filled with darkness,  it gets way too much much bad press and don’t get me started on all the clichés. I want to paint a more down to earth picture, yes there are many things which don’t work too well here but there is also a wealth of history, art and endless stories which overshadow any negativity.

Sicily Inside and Out is not a light and fluffy tourist magazine, it is about both the beauty and ugliness which exist side by side on the island. At times things can be dark but my writing always reflects a truthful and ongoing experience.

Please come with me, read along and be open to the exotic nature of Sicily.

Palazzo Draghi, ME

Now fifteen years of living in Sicily things are less foreign and I am in the unique position of being considered a local with the perspective of an outsider.

This year I am concentrating on writing my travel books and freelance work so my posts will be less regular.

Why not subscribe to the blog for some random Sicilian beauty and insights into life here in Sicily, who knows you may find something to add to your bucket list and it all arrives effortlessly in your in box.

I love hearing from my readers so if you have a Sicilian experience to share with me feel free to drop me a line with your idea or let me know what you’d like me to explore for you.

If you like any of the images let me know as most of the photo’s are my own and I will be happy send you prints on request.

If you want to invite me to your Sicilian hotel or town, let me know and I will visit, photograph, write and visit your piece of Sicily.
