Over the New Year we had a cold snap here and the snow gradually isolated us from the rest of the world. It was a blissful way to start the year, playing and enjoying the magical way the snow transforms the landscape into something magical.

Many Sicilians will remember the winter of 1946-1947, the worst in centuries and without food and fuel.
Yes, winters here used to be terribly harsh. I have heard many stories about people being isolated for months, in the period you mentioned too. Floresta is the highest comune in Sicily, one winter they had to have supplies dropped by helicopter. But since I’ve been here there has been hardly any snow, apart from Etna.
Wish I were there…
It’s quite beautiful isn’t it … but it’s all melted away now … sniff 🙁
