Postcards from Sicily: Bomboniere

Friday Photo: Bomboniere

Italian’s have a mania for giving sugared almond filled bomboniere for every occasion.
There are little colourful packages for births, baptisms, weddings etc.
I got this cute one recently all in red for a Laurea … or a university degree!
Yes just when you thought there couldn’t be any other excuses for a bomboniere …

  1. My best friend from school was Italian. I loved going to her place and experiencing the differences. This was in the 1960’s and there were very few migrants in our town and a fair bit of racism existed. I loved the food and I particularly remember the sugared almonds! Thanks for prompting the memory – my friend passed away in 2003 from breast cancer.

    1. Thank you for sharing such a precious memory. Isn’t it funny how the smallest things make us remember.
I was very lucky to live in a more multicultural period and I never experienced any problems with racism, but I know my mother did. Let’s hope Australia stays multicultural forever!! Warmest regards
